High-definition imaging that allows our medical team to see inside your pet instantly and accurately—without the wait.
At Barkfield Animal Hospital, we utilize the latest in digital radiology technology to provide our patients with the highest standard of diagnostic care. Unlike traditional film X-rays, digital radiology allows us to capture high-resolution images of your pet’s internal structures in a matter of seconds. This speed is critical, especially in emergency situations or when dealing with a pet that is anxious or in pain. Because the images are digital, we can manipulate, zoom, and enhance them to spot even the smallest abnormalities that might be missed on standard film.
Digital X-rays are an essential tool for evaluating a wide range of conditions, from identifying broken bones and joint issues like arthritis to detecting foreign objects your pet may have swallowed. We also use radiology to assess the size and shape of internal organs like the heart, lungs, and liver, which is vital for diagnosing respiratory issues or heart disease. Furthermore, digital files can be shared instantly with board-certified radiologists via the cloud, ensuring that if your pet needs a specialist's second opinion, we can get answers in hours rather than days. This technology reflects our commitment to providing the families of Cumming with fast, accurate, and non-invasive medical solutions.Because our pets are masters at hiding pain, they often suffer in silence with broken teeth or infected gums. Our professional dental services are designed to identify hidden sources of discomfort and stop the progression of periodontal disease. By investing in regular dental cleanings and professional assessments, you aren't just improving your pet's quality of life; you are likely extending their lifespan. We utilize modern veterinary dental technology to ensure that every cleaning is thorough, safe, and effective, giving your pet a pain-free mouth and a reason to keep wagging their tail.

We use X-rays to diagnose fractures, dislocations, and chronic conditions like hip dysplasia or arthritis to create effective mobility plans.
Radiology helps us visualize the chest and abdomen to check for heart enlargement, lung congestion, or organ abnormalities.
If your pet ate something they shouldn't have, X-rays are the first step in locating the object and determining if surgery is required.

Our staff uses "low-stress" handling techniques to gently position your pet for the necessary views while keeping them calm.
Digital X-rays require significantly less radiation than older film methods, making it a very safe procedure for your pet.
Because there is no film to develop, the images appear on our screens immediately for the veterinarian to review with you.
Once the images are captured, we sit down with you to explain the findings and discuss the best treatment plan.
Please reach us at barkfieldah@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes. Digital X-rays use a very low dose of radiation. We only take the necessary number of views to get a diagnosis, making the risk extremely minimal.
Most pets can remain awake for X-rays. However, if your pet is in significant pain (such as a broken bone) or is very wiggly, we may use a mild sedative to help them relax so we can get a clear, diagnostic image.
For safety and radiation regulations, only trained staff wearing lead protection are allowed in the X-ray suite. However, the process is very fast, and your pet will be back with you in just a few minutes!
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
