A drug-free, non-invasive, and painless way to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and speed up your pet's natural healing process.
At Barkfield Animal Hospital, we are dedicated to offering innovative treatments that improve your pet's quality of life without always relying on heavy medication. Laser Therapy (also known as Photobiomodulation) is a state-of-the-art medical treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity. When the laser light is applied to damaged tissues, it triggers a biological response that increases circulation, reduces swelling, and releases the body's natural pain-relieving endorphins.
This therapy is an incredible tool for a wide variety of conditions. For our senior patients, it can be a life-changer for managing the chronic pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. For pets recovering from surgery or injuries, it significantly accelerates the healing of incisions and soft tissue damage. Because the treatment is completely painless—often feeling like a gentle, soothing warmth—most pets find the sessions incredibly relaxing. Whether used as a standalone treatment or as part of a multi-modal pain management plan, Laser Therapy represents our commitment to providing gentle, effective, and modern care for the pets of Cumming.

Highly effective for reducing the daily discomfort of arthritis, hip dysplasia, and "old age" stiffness in senior pets.
We use laser therapy post-operatively to help surgical incisions heal faster and to reduce the risk of infection or scarring.
Perfect for treating hot spots, ear infections, sprains, and skin wounds by quickly knocking down inflammation and swelling.

Both the technician and your pet will wear special protective eyewear (often called "Doggles" for pets) to protect against the laser light.
The technician moves a handheld laser wand slowly over the affected area. There is no clipping of fur required.
Most pets feel a pleasant, warm sensation. It is common for dogs and cats to lean into the treatment or even fall asleep during the session.
Unlike surgery or some medications, there are no side effects and no recovery time needed after a session; your pet can go right back to their day.

Not at all. In fact, it’s the opposite! Most pets find the warm sensation very soothing. It is completely non-invasive and does not involve any needles or discomfort.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, a session usually lasts between 5 to 15 minutes. It’s a very convenient "in-and-out" appointment.
You may see a difference in your pet's mobility or comfort within 24 hours, but the effects of laser therapy are cumulative. Most owners notice a significant change after the 3rd or 4th session.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
